What is it with the boxing in prison movies lately. There is a ton of these recently. I confess I have never been a fan of prison films, to begin with.

Now we have a true story about a guy in a foreign prison who boxes his way to freedom No not really but we will get to that.

The Good: The first half of this movie is brilliant. You are thrown in the prison with the character. The decision not to put in subtitles turns out to be a brilliant one.

One of the best representations of the hopelessness and fear of being in a prison I have ever seen. And this guy is a boxer and you are scared for him.

The Bad: Billy Moore is an idiot. He wrote his own biography I am sure he knows what an idiot he was. To use an example he falls for a ladyboy.

Not that there is anything wrong with that. Servicing another client. And this is only one example. The movie also goes down the well worn getting clean path.

The Ugly: There is a scene in this movie that makes me never want to watch it again. In conclusion: I am not sure Billy Moore actually boxed his way out of prison.

There are only english subtitles when the other prisoners try to speak english badly. The dialogue going on around our British hero is as much a mystery to us as it was to him, making the experience unusually profound.

Stereotype prison rape scene was non graphic softcore and there is no graphic nudity other than a few butts, but the violence and trauma in this movie is NOT something you would want your children to see.

A spoiler about the ending would be really tasteless in such a powerful drama. I'm going to buy the dvd right now and and unless you are a milquetoast prude, you should also.

Billy gets sent to Chiang Mai Prison where everyone is fresh meat unless you've been there awhile. One of the things Billy finds out, is that if you compete in Muay Thai Boxing tournaments, you can gain your freedom.

I absolutely hated this movie because, 1. The whole movie is spoken in Thai. There's words you can understand at times, but they put subtitles on at the same time, but they don't use subtitles for most of the movie when everyone is speaking in Thai.

That's SO annoying! Lastly, The gang rape scenes where they run a train on other inmates doesn't need to be shown. It's disgusting! If you ask me and put all those things together, it makes a good recipe for failure.

The premise of this true story is great, but it could've been so much better if you didn't have the annoying things on top of all the gross rape scenes.

I wouldn't recommend this movie to anybody. I love movies, but couldn't finish this one. Well, one can not complain about the script writers as there was virtually no script.

It was left up to the viewer to try and figure out the story line. Even after doing some basic research on the story I found it difficult to follow.
