What they got was a film that was worse than the original. The Silver Surfer is a great character but used like this it was just not effective and somehow Mark Frost wrote a worse script than before.

Nov 25, In case there's someone out there in the world who's not yet guessed, I don't like this movie. If you're looking for the sort of movie that uses bad puns in a way that would make Freddy Kreuger blush, and aren't anywhere near as fun, the kind of movie that shoves half the worlds great monuments into one film, but can only bothered to have them be incredibly bad computer graphic replicas, a movie that would have the audacity to take a giant world eating humanoid and turn him into a cloud, then you'll love Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer Of course you'll also be a complete moron and should remove yourself from the gene-pool.
That's not to say there's nothing good about it. I can understand that there's some okay stuff that people would actually enjoy, but it's none of those things.
I'm not going to stay on this one for too long because of how terrible I find it. From memory I'm pretty sure watching this in cinemas was the first time I ever watched a film and didn't enjoy it at all the only time since then being when I watched Eragon, although it's possible the two were the other way around, I can't recall.
There were a couple of gimmicks that were okay-ish, as seen above when The Human Torch and The Thing switch powers near the beginning.
Speaking of the beginning, the first third of the movie was definitely the best part of it, the last being the worst. There's not a lot to Rise of the Silver Surfer, and I think even fans of the not-much-better Fantastic 4 from The film is hardly any good, but it is at least watchable, not a thrilling effects ride Revenge of the Fallen calibre kind of way, but I could sit the whole way through, and though not thoroughly loving it, didn't have to force myself to not fall asleep or forget the movie was playing at all.

Reed and Sue were the parents, and Johnny and Ben were the bickering brothers…but they all loved each other. No matter what, they had each other.
The book was revolutionary for the way they showed us how hard it was for Ben to live one of the few things that the first film did really well , and how all of these fantastic things we saw in it were actually happening in our reality.
It was all real, and they made you believe it, even when a giant man with a huge helmet with horns on it and big G on his chest showed up because he wanted to eat the planet.
This film attempts to do the same thing Stan and Jack did. It makes a valiant effort to bring us the world they created.
There are a few things that I had to roll my eyes at Mr. I get that. They took the concept of Dr. Doom having the power cosmic from another Stan and Jack story, and I wish they had chosen the route of that story for the film.
In that book, Dr. His costume was as good as a Dr. My primary suggestion would be to just keep him out of the next one all together.
Now the comedy in the film was hit and miss, but for the most part, I enjoyed it. Most everything between Johnny and Ben was good, and I have always loved their relationship in the comics.
Jessica Alba is still not, and never will be, right for Sue Storm. Heck, I even liked the Dodge Fantasticar…why? Because that is totally Stan and Jack.
They had the FF get licensing deals and other celebrity endorsements because they had to pay the bills at the Baxter Building. The final thing I want to comment on is Galacticloud.
All in all, I was very pleased with the movie, and — while not the greatest superhero movie ever — it was enjoyable and entertaining.
I look forward to seeing the next one.

The end was so disappointing. It seems like the time was running out then they got to push Galactus away in just 1 minute. And then, the Surfer alone was able to do the almost-impossible task.
They could have end the movie after the fight with doctor Doom and leave the fight with Galactus to the next Movie.
Would have been much better. Give me a break. I have to agree that this a completely lame explanation for a menacing cloud that was supposed to be Galactus.
Not showing Galactus was the dumb and easy way out. It was cheap, and took no creativity visually or storywise.
As a 3D designer I can tell you right now that it would be relatively easy, yet extremely visually compelling. Anyone with an ounce of love for Marvel history would never make such a stupid and easy creative decision.
Doom still sucked though, too much of a Lex Luther lite for my taste. In the comics his power is his great mind, supreme arrogance and his rivalry with Reed Richards.
No offence to the guy who played him but they should have gotten someone with a little more screen presence who could pull off the much needed darkness.
Also he should have had a bit of an accent and his armour needed some cool stuff. Especially since the majority of the fan community insists on bitching about everything, all the time.

You will never see that in a theater. If they intend to do a sequel or a Silver Surfer spin-off I see no way they can get around having Galactus appear….

There is no way you could see Galactus in live action and not laugh your ass off. Indicating that they are not the same thing.
The movie was much closer to its comic book roots than the previous film. That is rubbish, Galactus as a cloud is stupid.
Highly disappointing. It should be against the law to make Galactus as a cloud. They missed out on something that could have made the film fantastic, no pun intended.
